The Fruit of the Spirit: Love

Writer's picture: Double BlessingDouble Blessing

Love is an action that the Holy Spirit gives. The Bible states, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23).

So, when others see you and your actions, can they see the Holy Spirit manifesting Himself inside of you? Do you love others and show your love for one another through your actions? These are a few questions to help you reflect on your own behavior. 1 John 4:8 says, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” So, lets love others and show them God’s love through our words and actions.

The Bible states, “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator” (Colossians 3:5-10). Therefore, get closer to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to transform you into the image of Jesus Christ. “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:18).

So, put on love, show it through your actions, and tell people the truth in love. Colossians 3:14 states, “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Accept the fruit of the Spirit and allow them to be seen throughout your life. The Bible states, “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us” (1 John 4:9-12).

Prayer

Jesus, I pray that everyone who reads this post realizes that love is from You. Deliver them all from evil and create in them a pure heart. “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). Help them love others, just like You love us. For You say in John 13:34-35, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” In Jesus Mighty Holy name I pray, Amen.
